“Ianto!” Jack barks from the doorway of his office. “Get in here! NOW!”
Ianto freezes for a moment at Jack’s tone, then quietly makes his way to Jack’s office, keeping his head down.
Jack sounds calmer as he asks, “Can you tell me why it is that Gwen showed up at Police headquarters for work this morning? With no memory of the last two years or of Torchwood?”
Ianto blinks rapidly and opens then closes his mouth, not sure what to say.
“You had no right to retcon her,” Jack yells, pacing back and forth. “I know I handled the entire situation poorly and I understand that it upset you, but that doesn’t give you the right to do something like this. It was my decision to let Rhys remember and if you had that big of a problem with it you should have come to me, not taken matters into your own hands. I cannot believe that you would do something so childish--”
“It wasn’t him,” Owen says softly from the door, his arms crossed over his chest.
“What?” Jack asks keeping his attention focused on Ianto.
“It wasn’t Ianto,” Owen says. “He didn’t know anything about it.”
“You?” Jack asks, turning to Owen.
“Yes.”
Jack gapes for a moment before asking, “Why?”
Owen shrugs. “You said yourself you handled the whole situation poorly.”
“But that--”
“Save it, Jack,” Owen replies. “You fucked up and let Gwen push you too far. You compromised security, you ignored procedures, and you let your personal feelings get in the way of doing your job.”
“Seems to me you’ve all done that before. Diane. Mary. Lisa…”
“Yes. And every one of those times you stepped in and made the difficult decisions. We hated you for it, but you did what had to be done. And this had to be done. Full stop. And as much as your actions yesterday hurt Ianto, neither one of you had the balls to actually do it.”
“So you took it upon yourself…”
“Yes,” Owen says. “I took care of the problem, Jack. You never would have let her go and Ianto could never hurt you like that. You can yell at me later if you like, but right now, I think you owe Ianto an apology for assuming it was him, and then Tosh has dossiers ready on potential police liaisons for you to review.”

Date: 2011-10-31 06:11 am (UTC)I also wonder if Tosh knew about, seeing as she had the dossiers for Gwen's replacement ready for Jack's perusal.

Date: 2011-10-31 12:26 pm (UTC)Jack really does owe Ianto a big apology for assuming it was him.
So can Torchwood recruit PC Andy or Detective Swanson now? Or better yet, both!
