“I’ve told you before, son,” Mal says levelly as he walks slowly around Simon. “As long as you’re on my boat, you’ll follow my rules.”
“And I’ve told you before, Captain, that my sister is not to be used as a lookout, while you commit crimes.”
“We’re not having this discussion again. The issue is closed.”
“No, it really isn’t.”
“Boy, you are rapidly earning yourself a trip across my knee.”
“Really? Anything I can do to earn that faster?” Simon asks, looking up through his eyelashes at the older man. “I’m not sure how long River will be asleep.”

“We’re done wasting time. This discussion is over.” Mal punctuated his statement with a finger pointed directly at Jayne’s chest. “I’m still the captain and we’re going with my plan.”
“Well, I still disagree,” Jayne announced, standing his ground, arms crossed and face threatening. “Your plan is gonna get us all killed. Or worse.”
“Drop it, Jayne. You’ll follow my orders,” Mal growled.
“And if I refuse?”
“Well, then…” Mal paused awkwardly. “I hope your shoes are comfortable,” he eventually finished.
“And why’s that?” Jayne challenged.
“Because you ain’t gonna be sitting comfortably for quite a spell,” Mal replied menacingly.

“You did, but seein’ as you were wrong the last time you said that, I ignored you this time.”
“You don’t just get to decide which orders you’re gonna follow and which ones you’re not. I’m in charge and you do as I say.”
“’Cause that always works out so well.”
“I suggest you drop the attitude,” Mal said, getting right up in his face. “You’ve already got one hell of a spanking coming, I’m don’t think you want to make it any worse.”
“I might,” Janye replied. “Dependin’ on who’s doing the spanking.”

“Mal,” Inara said as the Captain stumbled into her shuttle. “You’re injured.”
“Yeah, I reckon that’s why I’m in so much pain.”
“Let’s get you to Simon,” she said, looping an arm around his and steering him out.
“Don’t need doctoring. Just somethin’ for the pain. And seeing as how I rescued you, seems like you should help me out.”
“I told you I didn’t need rescuing—“
“Spank me,” Mal interrupted.
“You’re in pain, why would I want to hurt you?”
“No endorphin rush when you just get beat up. And I could really use that right about now.”
