Prompt: Torchwood, team, Ianto tells Jack about Lisa and asks for help. What happens to her is up to the author.
“Sir?” Ianto asks as he leaves a cup of coffee and an armful of files on Jack’s desk.
“Yes, Ianto?” Jack replies, looking up to make eye contact with the younger man.
“I…”
“Ianto, there is something you’ve been trying to work up the courage to tell me since the day you started here. Spit it out.”
Ianto looks at the floor for a moment, then murmurs, “It’s…it’s bad.”
“I’m sure you believe that, as much trouble as you’ve had telling me. But I’ve worked for Torchwood for a long time now and I’ve seen things. There is nothing you can tell me that will shock me. Tell me so we can get past this.”
“I’ve done something…” Ianto pauses to swallow past the lump in his throat and screws is eyes tightly closed to keep back the tears. “After the…after Torchwood One…I brought something here that I shouldn’t have.”
“Ianto?” Jack says softly, standing up and reaching out for him. Ianto allows himself to be pulled into a hug and buries his face against Jack’s shoulder. “What did you bring?”
“I thought it was still her. I thought I could help her. I thought I could fix her, but I don’t know what else to do and I’m so tired...”
“Who? Ianto, tell me who,” Jack says.
“Lisa. I thought it was still her. I’m sorry.”
“Lisa? Your girlfriend? She was on the list of the dead. She was…” Jack stops, realization dawning. “Where is she, Ianto? Take me to her.”
Ianto straightens up and nods. “This way, sir,” he says, leading Jack out of the office and down to the lower levels of the Hub. Stopping outside a padlocked door in an unused section of the catacombs Ianto says, “I’m sorry, sir.”
Entering the room Jack forces down the desire to run and tries to remain calm. “You do know it isn’t her, right? You know that she can’t be saved?”
Ianto nods miserably, eyes downcast. Jack takes a deep breath and continues, “If it will make you feel any better, I can get Owen and Tosh to come down and take a look, but she’s been dead since the conversion started.”
“I know. At the time I didn’t, but I’ve read about this tech and…”
“Do you want to finish it, or should I?” Jack asks.
“I can’t,” Ianto says. “I have the right drugs and everything to dismantle the conversion unit, but I can’t do it.”
“I understand. Honestly, I’m amazed you were able to tell me at all. It takes a lot to overcome the telepathic control. Which means, you’re a very strong man, Mr. Jones. Someone I’m proud to have on my team.”

Date: 2010-09-28 10:41 pm (UTC)I've been toying with a similar idea, Ianto telling Jack about Lisa, for a while, but I'm not sure I'll write it now. This packs such a punch!
