“He was happy,” Ianto said.  “Jack had a family here, people who loved him, people he cared for.  A family bound by love, not by blood.  He saved us, all of us, even if we didn’t know it at the time.”  Ianto watched the life sign monitors of the cryochamber as they slowed and ceased.  “He did this for me once, with Lisa.  He killed her because I wasn’t strong enough to do it.  I loved her too much.  Now I can return the favor because I don’t love you like he does.  He was happy, until you ruined everything.”

Ouch!

On the other hand, I can definitely see Ianto doing this, I understand his reasoning and I think he's being merciful to Gray in an odd kind of way. Gray, like Lisa, is beyond healing and is suffering even if he doesn't realise it.

I think the parallels between Lisa and Gray are overlooked because of everything else that happens at the time.
