Drabble: The Stolen History

Title: The Stolen History

Ianto wakes up.  In his own bed, his own flat.  Disoriented.  He should be with Lisa.  He remembers, Lisa died.  Quietly, peacefully, in his arms.  He confessed to Jack.  Jack helped him dismantle the conversion unit.  The others never knew. 

Except, that memory isn’t quite right.  It isn’t in focus.  It’s…artificial, ret-con induced, he realizes.

As the true memories burst through Ianto lets out a strangled sob and finds himself being wrapped in Jack’s arms.

“Why?”

“You did the best you could, she was too far gone.”

“No, why ret-con?  Why only yesterday?”

“You don’t deserve that type of pain.”

I may end up coming back to this idea later, in a longer format. I've already explored the option that Jack knew what Ianto was up to all along, it may be time to consider who remembers what after.

Trying to make things right with Retcon... I guess that means Jack retconned the rest of the team so they don't remember anything...

This really is thought provoking, I love that Jack did it to try to ease Ianto's suffering.
